Ashley Joon’s work exudes a freedom in expression, making her own rules and breaking them at will. She's drawn to the life cycle of flowers, how they grow through dirt, endure elements they can’t control, bloom gorgeously yet become more interesting as the age and wilt. She seeks out color palettes found in nature, anything from rocks, trees to fish scales. Showing both fierceness and softness in her work, Ashley indirectly plays with the different parts of femininity. Her hope is for viewers to forget about their troubles, even if just for a moment and immerse themselves in brushstrokes. Ultimately she wants to contribute beauty to this world, remind people to stop and smell the flowers, and for everyone to bloom authentically.
